Post by tcba1987 on Mon Oct 20, 2008 1:29 pm

fished the Tusc today for about a half an hour......i was killing time between 2 appointments that i had.......i was pleasantly surprised ........i had 2 hits in the short amount of time that i was there ........i landed one nice fat 13 inch smallie and lost another that looked like it was about the same size............i had both fish on a small cordell big O crankbait (shad colored)............i also threw a black buzzbait and a smoke colored texas rigged tube bait and didnt have any hits on those 2 baits !!! it was a beautiful day to be out .........oh yeah the fish were located right in the middle of the river just below a riffle area in about 4-5 ft of water !!!

SORRY the pictures arent the best !!! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad but i was fishing alone again and didnt have anyone to take the pictures for me !!

Nice fat fall smallies! I have yet to try my local river this fall but hoping its better than this summer! Iguess the tusc was just late to get the bite to pick up.... Good to see another person catching fish thats for sure! Keep trying and hope to see some more nice ones b4 icey time Wink

BTW I've tried buzzbaits for smallies in the rivers and they never seem to get hooked about how long of a buzzbait do you use? Thanks

i use big buzzbaits ........usually 1/4 to 3/8 oz models with pretty large frames on them...........i have a friend who uses the mini buzzbaits that strike king makes and he does well on them !!!

the key thing is .........i think......is USE a trailer hook on ALL buzzbaits to reduce missed strikes !!!
