Outdoors Wayne National Forest Ice!

Post by AllWeatherAngler on Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:25 am

Heading out at 7 am to check out a nice pond I fished on Wayne land this past summer. I can't disclose exact location but, it is near Hocking College. The pond is very deep and has a good population of big gills. We completed another Ice Management experiment on Friday evening on this pond. It was hopelessly covered with 5" snow on 2" ice and very unsafe obviously. We really wanted to get on this hot spot so we began a process. We went out and bought a bilge pump and 10ft of hose and carried that with a battery on a sled to the pond. We drilled a couple holes near the shore and used the bilge pump to soak all of the surrounding snow. According to my calculation with the two REALLY cold nights we've had there should be plenty of great ice to get on. Will post results and pics if any tomorrow evening.

Wow! you've got some ideas that can put you on spots no one else fishes!!!

Hope that ice thickens some! Good luck on the big gills

Hey guys sorry about the super late reply! My computer crashed that same day and I am just now getting back online. As for the report on that particular day, it was a strikeout! We were only able to get so far on that pond due to spring activity. The water was so clear that we were able to see straight to the bottom in 13fow through our holes! Unfortunately we saw no fish and caught none either. Will post more reports soon of my more recent activities.
