The water temp. was 50 and the water visibility was about 1-2in. and the water level was about 18in. below summer pool and it was dropping . They had the dam open pretty good but did see a couple of guys fishing there . The water was stained pretty bad from the rains and melt but we didn't see the creek it's self tell we left . Two of us got on the spot late and did not get a morning fish so we packed up and went to Dream Bridge and cheesed the area in front of the bridge as well as against the pylons. No marks so we headed back to Blackhawk. We scrapped a jumbo perch and an eye on a spot that no one had been on but only a hundred yards from where they had been elbow to elbow. It got blown out pretty bad on Christmas but it's making a comeback. Today is better than yesterday and we should be good around New Year's on at least part of the lake. Long Island- This is the most fishable area of the lake that I have found. It's a little tricky getting on the ice, but once you get out from shore you're not in bad shape. Started out drifting down some sides of a point I was in 13'/ 14' of water throwing a 1" baumer( blue/chrome perch ) crank with 1/4 oz slip 2' above it . The first thing I noted was all the dead carp floating , ( we saw about 50 or 60 of them ) . I'm hoping that it's due to the spawn and that the fish are old but there is some farm fields close to the creek . We were after crappie and they were taking the minnow really well... the jig was a little slower, but all in all a good day. End of the day we didn't have nough to dirty a knife for so we released them. I've been so busy lately that I've only been out one time this month, it rained all day on the third when I wanted to go, so that was a bust. I was just taking a chance that they might be moving shallow, so I hit the riprap toward the mouth of Moundwood channel. There are a couple of laydowns there and I dropped the wayne's jig into what turned out to be a super productive little stretch of shoreline! Inside of about half an hour I got several bluegill, and a half dozen small CRAPPIE! One was a good keeper ... Try tightlining any of your saugeye lakes right now and yu should do well as the fish are holding really tight to the bottom and sticking close to beds. They seem to be more aggressive in the 3-5 o'clock timeframe. I had some good bites earlier in the week with the wind stacking the fish up a little on the south end. I'll be going out for a few hours tomorrow early afternoon ...
