Post by OhioFisher on Tue Feb 12, 2008 9:25 pm

Thanks to- http://IndianLake.com I will be posting their fishing reports probably year round. If you plan on fishing Indian check out this map- http://indianlake.com/maps/fishingmap.htm
:note: I will also be using this topic to post to let all know of fresh reports.

LAKE CONDITIONS TODAY - The lake is down about 15".
Gas prices range from $1.49 to $1.53 around the lake.

December 12, 2008 -
11:30 AM - WE HAVE A PARTLY CLOUDY SKY WITH OCCASIONAL LIGHT SNOW. THE ICE VARIES IN THICKNESS FROM 0" OPEN WATER TO 2.5". EXTREME CAUTION IS ADVISED FOR ICE FISHING. THE ICE IS UNSAFE FOR SNOWMOBILES. OPEN WATER AREAS EXIST WHERE GEESE GATHER AND ALONG SHORELINES WHERE AREATORS ARE USED BY HOME OWNERS. THESE PLACES ARE NOT EASILY SEEN AND MAY EVEN HAVE A VERY THIN ICE COVERING MAKING IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MANY CHANNELS HAVE 2" OF ICE. CAUTION IS ADVISED ON THESE CHANNELS. WIND TODAY IS FROM THE NORTH NORTHWEST AT 15 MPH. IT FEELS LIKE 26 DEGREES. VISIBILITY IS 0.75 MILES. THE BAROMETER IS 30.01 AND STEADY. THE LAKE IS BELOW NORMAL POOL (AS MEASURED AT THE SPILLWAY).

Park Rangers recommend 2" of good quality ice for walking on the lake or ice fishing and 5" of good quality ice for snow mobiles.

Please remember that lake conditions change quickly. It can be very different in the late afternoon than it was in the morning. Know that anytime you are on the lake you are there at your own risk.

THE IL FISHING REPORT

Saugeye - The saugeye fishing is "OK" with a lot of 14" to 18" fish being caught. Try casting stickbaits along wind blown shores. The fish seem to be around moundwood mostly but other loacl hot spots are also producing.

Crappie - The crappie fishing has picked up some some. Most of the crappie are moving back around the docks TIGHT, so try fishing boat docks or brush piles and fish 3' to 4' deep. Different jigs, minnows and waxworms are catching most of the crappie.

Bluegill - The bluegill fishing doesn't get any better than it is right now. Try to find spawning areas and use small rubber baits or Icejigs tipped with redworms, wax worms or spikes.

Catfish - The catfishing is slowing. Tightline fishing seems to be the best, but there's also cats being caught on bobbers. Catfish seem to be about anywhere. They are hitting shrimp, liver, nightcrawlers, shad and prepared bait in a bag. Most cats are caught while tighlining for eyes.

INDIVIDUAL FISHING REPORTS
Dec. 8, 2008 - Fished all day around the Long Island area. The thickest ice I could find was 3.5", most of the ice we fished on was 2.5"-3" of good solid ice. To get to the thicker ice we did walk across some 1.5" stuff that was cracking every step. The weather this week may wreck that thinner ice. Be carefull out there!
